How can you tell if you have termites?

Termites feed on your house hidden from view. Unless there are obvious signs of infestations, you probably won’t know termites are there. Obvious signs include:

• discarded wings that look like the wings of a fly
• wood that sounds hollow when tapped and gives easily when a screw driver is pressed against it
• cracked or bubbling paint
• Sheetrock with unusual holes in it
• termite droppings that look like sawdust
• mud tubes that look like this on the outside of the house

What does a termite swarm mean?

If you see a termite swarm in or anywhere near your house, or if you discover discarded wings from swarmers, you should call Super Pest Control immediately. This means you have a very active termite colony in your house and the surrounding soil. Usually by the time you have seen the termites and can see damage the termites have already done extensive damage to the wood in your house.

What do termites eat?

Termites feed on cellulose-based material such as wood, books, paper, boxes, furniture and even drywall. Termites can tunnel large distances through the soil to reach a food source . They have even been known to work their way up to the second floor of your house. They can eat up to 2 pounds of cellulose a day. Why are termites a threat to my house?

Termite colonies work on destroying your house 24 hours a day 7 days a week, every year until they are exterminated. Infestations can go undiscovered until serious damage has already been done. Homeowners insurance usually does not cover termite damage, so termite detection and continuos treatment are the best ways to exterminate these pests and protect your home.
